Do You Feel LONELY?

Sometimes in life, we feel lonely beyond imagination. No matter how many people are around us, we feel lonely. It feels like life is flowing without meaning. Feeling defeated and frustrated as if you missed out on so much. But don’t waste your energy fighting your feelings or trying to suppress them. Everyone feels lonely at times. Same for me. And feeling alone doesn’t mean you’re weak. It means you are human.

So what can we do at a time like this?

Here are some methods that I highly recommend, as they have significantly contributed to my personal growth when I’m feeling lonely.

Learn Something New

By putting your energy into something you are learning (a new language or a new skill) you can get rid of loneliness and get additional benefits (opportunity to meet new people). You can sign up for a cooking class or learn to play an instrument. Learning karate is one step I took to develop skills. This will also help you discover who you are.

Read a Book

When you feel lonely, reading a book can distract your mind. It also helps you understand how others think. Similarly, books like science fiction can help you gain new knowledge about the world. As a person who loves psychology, I also read novels and books about psychology when I feel lonely. Remember, books can expand your world and help you feel a little less lonely.

Engage in a hobby

This is just like you making time for yourself. What does your soul want? Allow it.
Example: Travel, Photography,Dance,Blogging

Maybe you haven’t found it yet. Keep trying. Find that thing that makes you happy. For example, my mother likes to grow flowers. No matter how busy her life is, when she comes home, she enjoys watering the flowers in the evening. Music and dance bring freedom to my life and my mind. It helps me survive the loneliness.

Be kind

Some time ago, when I felt lonely, I felt like ‘I’m useless’. But acting with kindness frees me from those feelings and helps me add value to my life. It reminded me that I am an important person. Because doing good for others can make you feel good, and it can also help you feel more connected to the community.

Get help

If you struggle with feeling alone and don’t know what to do, you can seek professional help. It also helps you find strategies to cope with loneliness in a healthy way. Seeking help in this way is not something to be ashamed of or think you are weak. Such service providers exist because many people need help.

Finally I want to say, it is not unusual to feel lonely from time to time. Whether you deal with occasional loneliness or chronic feelings of isolation, know that you are not alone in feeling lonely (even if it feels that way). Exploring different ways to cope and seeking professional help can help you feel more connected.
